Eagle vs Shark vs Rubbish Heist Movie…

January 13, 2010

Have just remembered that while we might have the same views on cooking, football and pets, Yorkshire Boy and I often do not agree on movies. We sat down the other night to watch Eagle vs Shark, an awesome Kiwi movie that was a belated Christmas present from a friend.

It was awesomely surreal, bizarre, funny and touching – with the hilarious guy from Flight of the Concorde in it – you really should watch it – a totally different kind of love story that’s more about making a connection and finding a place to belong, than anything else. But YB was very lost. It went right over his head. He attempted a few half-hearted laughs, then wrinkled his nose, I think he sighed a few times and then looked at me and announced: “This is odd.” This was his only comment on it.

Once it had finished he looked at me, still bemused but with shades of relief now flooding his face, and said: “Now what are we going to watch?” before trawling through the Sky box office and getting excited about movies with synopses that went like this:

Banking On It: Jared Jones ( played by Clive Owen) is a tough street cop, who faces his biggest nemesis when the biggest bank in the world is robbed? Can he singlehandledly save the world in time? (Starring Denszel Washington, Brad Pitt and Sean Bean)

Or: Boston Boys: Aging copper Dan Demarco (played by Nicholas Cage)  faces the toughest day of his life when he witnesses a drugdeal that goes wrong. Drawn into the seedy underworld of Boston, can he save the world in time? (Starring Vinnie Jones, Clive Owen and Sean Bean)

Or: Betting On It: Retired detective Bob Paulson (played by George Clooney) gets entangled in a casino heist that goes wrong. Can he save the world before it all implodes? (starring Bruce Willis, Denzel Washington and Nicholas Cage)

How do boys not get bored of these samey samey movies? Seriously?
